In early 2018, in partnership with the Environmental Management section of RMBC, FOB started an ambitious project to turn the neglected, overgrown and unloved wooded area at the back of Bamford Green into a woodland walk, a Community Garden with seating area, children’s seating area, and a wildflower meadow.

Plans were drawn up by members of the community, approved by EM, and funding applied for, and eventually, in September 2019, work was finally begun, with the clearing of some of the undergrowth and installation of new paths.

The funding, which has now been fully approved, is dependent on community involvement, and so in Autumn 2019, about 15 members of the community met and planted bluebell, wood anemone and wild garlic bulbs alongside the paths, hopefully to begin blooming in Spring 2020.

Work has now ground to a halt due to the onset of winter, but will hopefully begin again in early 2020. The plan is for most of it to remain as natural looking as possible, be wildlife friendly and low maintenance, with the open central community garden area being the focal point, with the open green in front.

Volunteers are always welcome, however much or little time you can spare.
